3P

The Protection Index Code from Costa (and generally in sunglasses) is a classification that indicates how well the lenses protect against UV radiation and sunlight. The codes 2P and 3P refer to the following categories:

  • 2P:
    • This means that the lenses offer medium protection.
    • They are suitable for average sunlight conditions, as encountered in everyday life or in moderately bright weather.
    • 2P lenses offer good protection against UV-A and UV-B rays.
  • 3P:
    • These lenses offer high protection.
    • They are ideal for very bright light conditions, such as those found on the beach, on the water, or in the mountains.
    • 3P lenses also protect against UV-A and UV-B rays, but additionally filter a larger proportion of visible light, reducing glare.

In summary, one can say:

  • 2P: Medium protection for everyday use
  • 3P: High protection for bright light conditions

It is important to note that these codes refer to protection against sunlight and UV radiation and not necessarily to protection against mechanical impacts.
